The World of Jikan 時間の世界
Gaia: A Planet Lost in Time

Jikan takes place in a country called Nippon on a planet called Gaia. Gaia is mostly geographically identical to Modern Earth, while Nippon is analogous to Japan. There is one moon named Luna and dozens of ring-like structures surrounding the planet that can only be seen at night.
Prior to the start of the game, the planet Gaia was trapped in a year-long timeloop, reliving the year 1920 over and over again. It's unknown to the general public just how long the planet was left on loop, as most people remained unaware of it, and only a fraction of the population recalls more than a handful of loops. As such, the actual year is debated, but theorized to be nearly a century off. In spite of this, the calendar is set to continue where it left off, making the current year 1922.
Due to dangerous time surges in the ocean that started to appear during the initial time loop, international travel is currently impossible, and the state of the world beyond Nippon's borders is unknown. Large buoys can be seen lining the coast marking the point of no return should a ship attempt to set sail.
As of right now, Nippon is the only country available for player characters to travel in. Other countries will be listed here for reference only whenever they are mentioned in events.
Foreign Nations of Gaia
Zhongguo 中国 China
Zhongguo is Nippon's neighbor to the West, and is currently the world's leading superpower and cultural powerhouse. Much of the foreign entertainment produced in Nippon is either inspired by or imported directly from Zhongguo.
Unlike Nippon, their population is far more diverse, with the dominant races including Yaoguai and Humans. Yaoguai is considered a polite term for Yokai-like people in Zhongguo, and includes those with only half or partial Yaoguai blood.
Most immigrants from Zhongguo tend to live in metropolitan cities, with the largest population located in Yokohama's Zhongguo Town.
East America 東アメリカ Eastern USA
A country of Humans located on the eastern half of North America. The common language is English. Due to a troubled history with the neighboring Cascadia, immigrants from East America will become very belligerent if mistaken for Cascadians. Although Refugees who speak English will be able to communicate with them in their native tongue, the sheer amount of slang and unfamiliar expressions may make them come off as unintelligible in turn. Although immigrants from East America are rare, there is a sizable population living in Yokohama's Isogo Ward.
Cascadia カスカディア Western USA
A vast and diverse nation located on the western half of North America. Although the official language is Cascadian, every region speaks their own unique dialect, often in accordance to the native tribes who occupy those regions. Despite an open border policy with the neighboring East America, travel between these nations is rare due to extremely dangerous time surge-related weather conditions in a region known as Tornado Alley, which separates the two. Cascadian immigrants to Nippon are rare.
